The great counter-cop-out plan

The narrative rewrite of my cognimancer story is done (what is a cognimancer?). Somehow I am still a bit dissatisfied with the story, but the areas that I felt needed improvement, did get improved in this revision. So I'm not complaining too much. Again this is to be stuck in the virtual drawer for a number of weeks before comparing it to the original draft and picking the stronger points of each.
I also plan on using a software to map out the events so that most of the revelations feel more like logical deductions and less like cop-outs.

Here's the problem. According to the timer on OpenOfficeOrg, I've spent close to 6 hours working on this. I'm not worried a lot about that. I believe in this story more than any I've written lately, but I could use some tips in editing a short story. Rewriting the narrative of a short story is not too much of a time sink as, say, rewriting a novel. But if I were to scale up my method, I'd never be finished re-writing a novel.

Last thing: I want to sell this story, so if you know of any magazine that accepts stories that seem noir with a touch of magic, please leave me their name in the comments section below.

  1. Good luck with your short story. Very interesting route you're taking to actually write it.
